The Northland Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation was established in 1994 with twofold purpose. First, maintaining the condition of the Northland Vietnam Veterans Memorial located on the Lake Superior Lake Walk and second, promoting the memory and commitment of those who served during the Vietnam War. Our organization offers a minimum of three scholarships to qualified candidates residing in six (6) Minnesota counties of St. Louis, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching and Lake and two (2) Wisconsin counties of Douglas and Bayfield. The scholarship is based solely upon the paper written on the subject listed on application. The award categories and qualifications are listed below.

Each scholarship awarded is in an amount of $750. The award will be sent directly to their educational institution when fall registration is verified. Recipients are eligible to reapply annually.
Brief Essay (typed-500 words or less) on the following topic:
"After doing research, explain the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital: Vietnam War MUST vs. MASH."
Each scholarship awarded is in an amount of $1000. The award will be sent directly to their educational institution when fall registration is verified. Recipients are eligible to reapply annually.
Brief Essay (typed-500 words or less) on the following topic:
"In your research and study, what was the cause of the Vietnam War? Then interview a Vietnam Veteran, if possible, and ask him/her to explain his feelings about how the war started."
